    Julian (or Juliana) of Norwich ( – after ), also known as Dame Julian or Mother Julian, was an English anchorite of the Middle wrote the earliest surviving book in the English language written by a woman, Revelations of Divine Love. She lived practically her whole life in the English city of Norwich, an important centre for commerce that also had a vibrant religious : late , Norfolk. In the past ten years, I have published two books on prayer and spirituality and an occasional poem.       Over six hundred years ago a woman known as Julian of Norwich wrote what is now regarded as one of the greatest works of literature in English. Based on a sequence of mystical visions she received in , her book is called Revelations of Divine Love. Julian lived through an age of political and religious turmoil, as well as through the misery of the Black Death, and her writing 4/5(1). Julian of Norwich (c) is known to us almost only through her book, The Revelations of Divine Love, which is widely acknowledged as one of the great classics of the spiritual life. She is thought to have been the first woman to write a book in English which has survived.
